  • Frey, City Council, and Park Board Candidates form “Team Minneapolis” Slate

10-24-25-MINNEAPOLIS -- Today, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and a coalition of allied candidates running for City Council and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board announced their 2025 slate, “Team Minneapolis.”

“Team Minneapolis was formed to present voters with a clear, aligned slate of candidates heading into this election,” said Frey campaign manager Sam Schulenberg. “Minneapolis is a great city on the rebound, but we face a pivotal choice this election. Mayor Frey and this team are offering a path to a safer, more affordable city that lifts up workers and small businesses. The progress that we’ve made is fragile, and addressing the city’s challenges and the threat from Washington will require pragmatic leadership that puts results over politics. November 4th is our chance to elect a team of leaders ready to lead a united Minneapolis forward in this pivotal moment.”

The list of Team Minneapolis candidates includes:

    Jacob Frey - Mayor

Brian Strahan - City Council, Ward 1

“The people of Minneapolis deserve an end to the political theater that creates chaos at City Hall and too often obstructs action,” said Schulenberg. “While every member of this team does not agree on every issue, they share a commitment to open and honest debate, to following data and research, and a willingness to compromise for the sake of progress.”

All candidates who joined the team all agreed with the general policy positions outlined below. Team MPLS is a joint expenditure by all candidates who signed on.

    Improve Public Safety.

We will take action to rebuild MPD's ranks with diverse, community-oriented, and professional officers, implement every single reform outlined in the consent decree and state agreement, and expand our comprehensive public safety system to ensure every call receives the appropriate response. Also, we will improve public safety by activating parks and connecting people through community-specific programming.

    Pass Responsible budgets.

We will prioritize excellent basic city services, including our parks, before funding unproven programs. We will be careful stewards of your tax dollars, follow the data, fund what works, cut what doesn’t, and keep our finances stable - because we know that high property taxes fall hardest on working families and small business owners.

    Keep Housing Affordable.

We will expand pathways to homeownership in underserved communities and accelerate the production of housing, from deeply affordable to senior housing, throughout the city - so supply keeps up with demand and rents don’t rise.

Support Our Small Businesses and Workers.

Our small businesses, artists, and innovators are the backbone of our city, and we will help them thrive while ensuring their success goes hand in hand with fair pay and good benefits for the workers who power them.

    Address Climate Change.

We will expand our tree canopy, improve air quality, and capture carbon. At the same time, we will protect our lakes and rivers, wildlife, native plants, and the health and recreation of our residents.

    Stand by Our Values.

We will fight the Trump administration in court and through legislation to protect our neighbors, because in Minneapolis - no matter the color of your skin, where you’re from, what you worship, or who you love - you deserve dignity and respect.
